Functional Social Skills & Leisure Groups

Functional Social Skills & Leisure Groups, Janet Hansen Ph.D., BCBA-D LLC

We assist our clients in developing functional communication, social and leisure skills in a small group setting through participation in variety of age-appropriate leisure and pre-vocational activities, hobbies and other pre-teen and adolescent interests, like cooking and art.

These groups meet weekly for one hour with one of our friendly, highly-trained Behavioral Consultants. Our programs focus on improving leisure skills and developing hobbies. We use applied behavior analysis principles and procedures to teach functional social skills while having fun.

Our Social Skills Goals are:

  • Improving social communication
  • Expanding leisure skills and developing hobbies
  • Increasing independence and participation in a group, including building attention
  • Improving social awareness and manners

Cooking Class Goals are:

  • Learning appropriate eating skills, eating habits, mealtime behavior and etiquette
  • Increasing independence with meal preparation, cooking, and post-meal clean up
  • Improving understanding of safe kitchen practices
