AAC Social Communication Group

AAC Social Communication Groups, Janet Hansen Ph.D., BCBA-D, LLC

For school-age clients using augmentative and alternative (AAC) systems to express themselves, this group focuses on increasing communication, language and social skills using their AAC devices, while building independence and fostering greater participation with peers.

This group meets for one hour, 1-2 times each week. An emphasis is placed on fun and exciting activities to create and maintain motivation for children and adolescents.

Groups are designed to:

  • Increase independent AAC usage to build social and communication skills
  • Teach use of the AAC device for tasks like requesting, negating, commenting and labeling
  • Increase the use of the device in daily communication across all environments
  • Accommodate all AAC user levels, as well as all vocal output devices and AAC systems used for communication in whole or in part, including but not limited to PRC, Dynavox, iPads, and PECs.

Groups conducted by Behavioral Consultant Lisa Murray, M.Ed., under the supervision of Dr. Janet Hansen.  Groups are developed according to similar interests, motivations, and learning styles.

  • One-on-one parent/child office sessions may be scheduled with a Behavioral Consultant to work on family-oriented goals.
  • Services may be covered by your county board of developmental disabilities. Please check.
